About

Hello! My name is J Braden Traw. As long as I can remember, I have loved storytelling, and I want to become a published author who writes a wide variety of different stories in different mediums. I have written several short stories, poems, and even a novel I am currently querying. While I endure the long and arduous ordeal that is the querying and submission process, I’ve started self-publishing an online serial that you can find here.

Here you can see me working on my latest story, accompanied by my muse and personal success guru.

Background

I originally went to school for screenwriting, and have a Bachelor’s Degree from George Mason University. I always knew I wanted to write creatively, but I didn’t know which medium I wanted to specialize in. As a result, I also minored in creative writing, so that I could gain experience with both screenwriting and more traditional forms of fiction. While I still write screenplays from time to time, I have found myself more attracted to traditional mediums like novels, short stories, and poetry since my graduation.

I am also a graduate of the PocketMFA Program, which is an intensive workshop and mentoring opportunity that tries to replicate the experience of getting an MFA in creative writing over a concentrated 12-week program. You can check them out here.

My Philosophy Towards Writing

My favorite stories to write are the ones that get me out of my comfort zone. As a writer, I want to hone my craft as much as possible, with the end goal being that I feel comfortable depicting any type of character, plot point, or theme in a realistic and compelling way that is true to life. I have written stories on topics I knew next to nothing about, spending countless hours researching them until I felt confident enough to put them to page. Eventually, I hope to have a far-reaching and diverse body of work, so that anyone who loves to read should be able to find something to love and identify with among my stories.
